Lifelong friends, Marco, Manuela and Tomaso, inherited what was once their grandparents’ vineyards and winemaking knowledge, and transformed their traditional winery into an extraordinary laboratory of biodynamic practices.
Forti del Vento – which means “strengthened by the wind” – is nestled in the hills of the northern Apennines, near the town of Castelletto d'Orba in the province of Alessandria, Piemonte. The vineyard, which stretches over 7 hectares of organically-certified farm land, is planted on hilly terrain about 300 meters above sea level, and cultivated using ancient methods, without any chemical pesticides or fertilizers.
The winery produces relatively small quantities of exceptional natural wines based on traditional native varietals, like Dolcetto and its historical ancestor, Nibiö, as well as Barbera, Albarossa, Nebbiolo di Dronero, and old-vine Cortese and Chardonnay. In the cellar, one simple wine-making rule applies: do not remove or add anything to the wine! Let it be the true expression of the land through a fermentation process that preserves the natural evolution of indigenous yeasts.
