Fattoria Castellina wines are the result of natural winemaking that begins in the vineyard and continues in the cellar. By practicing agriculture based on biodynamic principles, they have embraced a different perspective on the production process. This allows them to obtain well-balanced grapes, free from chemical substances, promoting their development in harmony with the pedoclimatic context in which they are born. As a result, the vineyard can fully express its terroir. By excluding the use of chemicals and oenological additives in their cellar, Fattoria Castellina naturally accompany the transformation of grapes into wine, respecting the natural cycles. The result is a healthy, vibrant, and elegant wine, guaranteeing a quality tasting experience.
Located in the heart of Montalbano, a geographically rich region steeped in history and ideal for viticulture and olive cultivation, Fattoria Castellina benefits from exceptional terroir. Our vineyard is situated in the subzone of Montalbano, one of the eight subzones of Chianti DOCG, west of Florence. The sandy-loam soils, mixed with schist from sandstone, are surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation. Our vines, positioned between 200 and 300 meters above sea level, enjoy a south and southeast exposure, optimal ventilation, and breathtaking views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Montalbano is also rich in evidence of Etruscan civilization, with archaeological sites such as PIETRAMARINA, MONTEREGGI, the tomb dell'ovo, as well as the ARTIMINO necropolis and the Montefortini tumulus in COMEANA. Additionally, in close proximity to Florence, you can discover the magnificent Medici villas, UNESCO World Heritage sites, along with the 50-kilometer-long Barco Reale wall, which once delineated the Medici hunting reserve.
Founded in 1937, Fattoria Castellina is a historic agricultural enterprise nestled in the Tuscan countryside. Spread across 110 hectares, it consists of 10 hectares of vineyards, 30 hectares of olive groves, and 10 hectares of cultivated land. The remaining portion of the estate is comprised of beautiful oak, acacia, maple, pine, and strawberry forests. In 1998, Fabio and Elisabetta took over the reins of the business with a passion for injecting new vitality. They transformed old barns into a welcoming agritourism, offering visitors an authentic and immersive experience.
In 2004, Fattoria Castellina embarked on a true renaissance by becoming a biodynamic enterprise. Through in-depth study and the application of Rudolf Steiner's ideas from 1924, our estate embraced this approach that respects natural balance. The results were immediate: our new products showcased the validity of our method, revealing exceptional balance and vitality.
Today, Fattoria Castellina is led by Eleonora and Francesco Montomoli, the children of Fabio and Elisabetta. Rooted in the land they grew up on, they passionately continue the principles of biodynamic agriculture. They have planted an additional two hectares of vineyards, carefully selecting Vermentino blanc, Sangiovese, and Ciliegiolo. Simultaneously, our olive trees are gradually regenerating, bringing forth a renewed vigor to our olive oil production, while rekindling our love and respect for our land and its natural rhythms.
At Fattoria Castellina, we take pride in offering exceptional wines that showcase the unique identity of our territory. Each sip expresses our commitment to quality, authenticity, and respect for nature. Whether you're a passionate wine enthusiast or simply seeking an unforgettable gustatory experience, we invite you to discover our estate, explore our vineyards, and taste our wines, true ambassadors of Tuscany and Italian winemaking tradition.
