The philosophy of Cantina Castello di Torre in Pietra is rooted in respect for nature and the land, producing high-quality organic wines from grapes grown without chemicals, while preserving the historical heritage and natural richness of the Roma DOC region
The Estate
The estate spans 150 hectares of gentle hills made of tuff and rocks, located in the Roma DOC region. The vineyards cover 52 hectares, 8 hectares are dedicated to olive trees, and 80 hectares to the cultivation of cereals. We exclusively produce wine from our own organically grown grapes, with a passion and respect for our land.
History
Located in the medieval village of Torre in Pietra Castle, the existence of the winery dates back to the 16th century when the estate belonged to the Peretti family of Pope Sixtus V. The cellar, dug into the tuff hill behind the Castle, was already used for wine production and storage. In 1926, the estate was acquired by Senator Luigi Albertini, former owner of the Corriere della Sera, who modernized the facilities and expanded the vineyards. The winery as we know it was renovated in 1999.
Organic Philosophy
Since the early 2000s, we have adopted organic farming methods and are certified. Our commitment to organic agriculture respects the natural characteristics of the land, avoiding genetically modified organisms and chemical additives. We minimize the use of sulfur dioxide and instead focus on careful vineyard management, ensuring healthier grapes and higher quality wines.

The Terroir
The tuff hills, 50 meters above sea level, benefit from a temperate Mediterranean climate with southwest exposure, perfect for wine production. The soil consists of sedimentary and volcanic formations rich in ash and ancient lava, giving the wines a distinctive character.
Grape Varieties
The vineyards, located on the first hills overlooking the Roman coast, are cultivated with low spurred cordon for red varieties and Guyot training for whites. Red varieties include Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Cesanese, Syrah, and Merlot, while white varieties include Vermentino, Fiano, Malvasia Puntinata, Chardonnay, and Trebbiano. Thanks to organic farming practices, no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used. Natural ground cover and crop thinning techniques improve the quality of the harvested grapes.
Team
The estate is managed by Filippo Antonelli and Lorenzo Majnoni, both from families with a long winemaking tradition in Italy. Antonino De Gennaro Aquino is the head winemaker, and Ruggero Mazzilli provides technical consulting for the vineyards.
