CANTINA PROVIMA
Founded in 1932, Cantine PROVIMA is one the oldest wineries of the Matelica region in The Marches, best known for its quality Verdicchio wines. Only one-tenth the size of the nearby Jesi appellation (also known for Verdicchio), the Matelica valley is a narrow stretch of land enclaved between two mountain ranges which sustain a continental-like microclimate characterized by cold winters and hot, dry summers featuring beneficial temperature variations between day and night.
Originally created by the fascist regime to mass-produce white wine, PROVIMA – an acronym for “Wine Producers of Matelica” – reached a production peak of about 40,000 hectolitres per year in the ‘50s and ‘60s. Today, however, PROVIMA is an independent co-operative of some 80 producers spread over 120 hectares of vineyards, who believe in quality over quantity, producing an average of only 10,000 hectolitres of high-quality wine, using sustainable growing practices.
Aiming to convey its passion for Verdicchio and express the unique characteristics of this terroir, PROVIMA combines tradition with modern technologies to bring forth the very best expression and sensory complexity of Verdicchio di Matelica.
